The Richmond Peace Education Center Announces The 2015 Peace Essay Contest: Deadline for entries: April 20, 2015
The yearly Peace Essay contest sponsored by the Richmond Peace Education is now open for entries. The theme for this year’s contest, “Inspiration for a Better World,” is based on a quotation from the Dalai Lama. The writing prompt asks students to write about what inspires them to make their community and their world a better place. They are asked to include examples from their personal lives or from history and current events to support their ideas.
The contest is open to any elementary, middle, or high school student in Virginia. It offers a top prize of $100 in each of four grade divisions: K-2, 3-5, middle, and high school. Seven additonal cash prizes are also awarded in each division. Teachers are encouraged to use the contest’s writing prompt as they prepare students for the annual SOL writing tests.
The deadline for entries is April 20, 2015. Entry forms, along with contest rules and a conplete description of the writing prompt are available here:
