The Peace Center has launched the Gilpin Court Youth Peace Team Initiative this fall. Through this initiative, we will nurture and empower a group of youth in Gilpin Court to be leaders for positive change in their own community.
The programs and activities they participate in, and help to lead, will reach dozens of other Gilpin Court youth and hundreds of community members. Youth (age 12 to 18) will gain potentially life-saving skills in conflict resolution, communication, stress reduction and anger management–and then have opportunities to teach these skills to younger children and other community members, expanding the circle equipped to build peace in their community. In addition, the Gilpin Court community will enjoy larger community activities—“educoncerts,” community forums, and an urban gardening project, thanks to this initiative.
A grant from Local Initiatives Support Corporation (LISC) has made this initiative possible.
